Signs of the Seasons

The Pharisees and Sadducees came up, and testing Jesus, they asked Him to show them a sign from heaven. But He replied to them, “When it is evening, you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red.’ And in the morning, ‘There will be a storm today, for the sky is red and threatening.’ Do you know how to discern the appearance of the sky, but cannot discern the signs of the times?

In the last few days I am seeing more and more signs of the approaching summer. Usually the first evidence is the flowering of daffodils and crocuses in our gardens and parks, but I had forgotten to replant my daffodils last Autumn, so I only saw them in parks this year. Recently I have seen the occasional butterfly flapping across the shrubs in our garden, or the buzz of the first bees looking for a new summer home. Just last Sunday at church I saw my first Swallow cutting a dash across the blue sky, fresh from it’s migration from Africa. I find that as I get older, I appreciate the changing of the seasons more than when I was a lad. it is an age thing!

We should all appreciate the changing seasons – the constant evidence of our Creator, still working in our lives. As fine as it is to recognise and appreciate the changing seasons of creation, we need to also be aware of other seasons – “the signs of the times.” As we recognise the signs of approaching storms on the horizon, we should also recognise the storms approaching our world – the End Times before the return of Jesus Christ. The times and lengths of seasons vary from year to year, and forecasters can only do their best regarding weather. In contrast to this, the prophetic word of God regarding the End Times is completely accurate, and on track to to be completely fulfilled in the coming years.
