Isaac spoke to Abraham his father and said, “My father!” And he said, “Here I am, my son.” And he said, “Behold, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?” Abraham said, “God will provide for Himself the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.” So the two of them walked on together.
As a boy I had no worries about where my next meal was coming from; we were financially comfortable, and my father provided for us. There was no need for any doubt. This was turned on its head years later when I lived on my own in Stockton-On-Tees; a robbery left me in difficulty. I did not know where my next meal was going to come from. God intervened in that situation and led me to a church foodbank where I received help; it was a miracle for me, I had never heard of foodbanks before. God provided for me, my Jehovah Jireh!
Our scripture today comes from the amazing story where Abraham is asked by God to sacrifice Isaac on the mountain. Abraham made the necessary preparations, and they walked up the hill in faith. It is then that Isaac asks his father what must have been a painful question to hear. The only answer Abraham had for his son was one of faith in God, that He would provide the sacrificial lamb. Adam Clarke’s commentary explains “God will provide;” (Jehovah Jireh) as “God will take care that everything shall be done that is necessary for the comfort and support of them who trust Him.”
Dear Reader, this is the reality of your Father God – He is your provider. You may be in a similar situation as Abraham was, not knowing where your needed provision is coming from – but like Abraham did, exercise faith and just believe that God will provide. Almighty God is your Jehovah Jireh!
Yes indeed, brother! God guides and provides. Nothing can separate us from His mighty love.❤️

That’s one of my favorite songs. During lean times, it helped remind me that God would provide for my family’s needs. I saw Him meet needs in marvelous ways over the years and He still does because He is Jehovah Jireh!

I love how you framed it Alan- “This is the reality of your Father God – He is your provider.” When I was little, Jehovah Jirah was the first name of God I learned because we sang this song by Don Moen frequently in church. That song stuck with me through the years and the Holy Spirit would recall it to mind when I needed most to remember that God was my provider.
