“For the vision is yet for the appointed time;
It hastens toward the goal and it will not fail.
Though it tarries, wait for it;
For it will certainly come, it will not delay.”

Habakkuk 2:3 (NASB)

It is amazing how much we depend on objects in our life, and we are made aware of our dependence until they are suddenly not available to us. It wasn’t that long ago that we had a powercut at home, and all our devices were dead – the kettle sat cold and the computer silent without wifi. Just the other day I awoke to check the time on my watch which to my shock had stopped at 4.05am. Many times that day I looked forlornly at the space on my wrist for the time, only to see hairs and freckles. The whole process caused me to to re-evaluate my modern life of dependence on the unnecessary.

Today’s verse came to my attention as I was pondering my need to rely on God rather than mere things. Habakkuk was given a vision of things to come by God’s hand, but it would only happen in His timing. The Jews persecution under the cruelty of the Chaldeans was seen by God and would be dealt with in His perfect timing.

Dear reader, our fate is in the hands of our Father God – He holds our past, present and future. As He showed me through my absent watch, we needn’t fret about problems or the timing of our daily life…He controls it all. Let us apply in all things the timeless wisdom of Psalm 27:14“Wait for the Lord; Be strong and let your heart take courage; Yes, wait for the Lord.”

    1. Thank you brother. As it happens my watch is going to take 2 months at the watchmakers and cost ‘an arm and a leg’…hence I am now using my old Accurist which only needed a battery. The funny thing is I have hardly looked at it since I was reminded about my priorities.

  1. All in God’s own time. I believe the Cathedral’s quartet has a song by that title.
    Thank you for the reminder, brother, as I was starting to fret about some stressful things in my life. Everything is under gods control! May he continue to bless your blog ministry!
