The heavens are telling of the glory of God;
And their expanse is declaring the work of His hands.

Psalm 19:1 (NASB)

Yesterday I wrote about the wonders of Most High in our lives; either in Creation or in our daily life, maybe through others. Today’s verse from my recent readings is broadly on this very subject, but with one difference. In previous verses it is God who is speaking, but in this verse it is Creation that speaks to us of Him. This stopped me in my tracks as I read this verse over and over; the hills, trees, animals. birds all create a symphony that declares the magnificance of Almighty God!

I was reminded of the words of the prophet Isaiah relating to the return of the Israeli exiles to their homeland:

“For you will go out with joy
And be led forth with peace;
The mountains and the hills will break forth into shouts of joy before you,
And all the trees of the field will clap their hands.”

Isaiah 55:12

The imagery of mountains, hills and trees praising Almighty God as He leads His children home is such a joyous procession.

Dear reader, we are faced with the reality that Creation speaks and sings of God’s glory every day. Do we follow the examples of Creation by “declaring the works of His hands” in our life today? Let us join together with the trees and hills singing His praise, declaring His glory as the psalmist does:

O Lord, our Lord,
How majestic is Your name in all the earth,
Who have displayed Your splendor above the heavens!

Psalms 8:1

  1. I think that is what draws me deep into the wilderness Alan. I remember leaving camp at 4 in the morning to go a couple miles to a lake reported to be so clear it felt like the canoe was floating on air. It was scary and true. I made it back over a bog, up a fast river and two portages to get back to camp and make breakfast for the group. The creation of natures wonders shout quite loudly and in tune proclaiming it’s creator.

    1. What a lovely experience that would have been. It reminds me of a worship video which followed a canoeist through the different stages of a river. Thank you for sharing that brother, God bless you.
