Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you…

ā€” Colossians 3:16

I was at the garden centre today buying some compost, and as you see a couple of plants too…who could resist them? As I was heaving the bags of planting medium into the car I thought about my dad’s garden, he never had to buy compost. Indeed buying compost is a relatively new phenomenon of our society; past generations used what earth they had and added to it from their compost heap. There are many types of compost on the market today for various purposes and at varying prices, all with the purpose of being the best growing medium for your plants.

As Christians we have the ideal growing medium beside us, our Bible. The compost i buy is “enriched with nutrients…and food for 4-5 weeks” for my Salvia and Snap Dragons. These benefits will fade in the life of my plants; but by contrast the Word of God in your hands is full of food which will not fade away. In fact the Word in your hand will continue to enrich you more and more, as you read it and meditate on it continually.

Dear reader, “let the word of Christ richly dwell within you.” Just as you regularly feed and water your garden, do so with your heart, but with His Word and in prayer too. I pray dear brethren that would be enriched and continue to grow in Him today.

  1. Beautiful post. I used the song to gently flow as I listened and prayed. I went outside and put compost in a pot I had forgotten and now I will go out in the sun To read the Word and enter my journal. Thank you for your part of my morning. Blessings!

    1. Thank you Faye, I am sitting outside this Friday morning in our patio reading your lovely words. The pigeons in the woods are cooing their awake, and all the wee birds are chirping away too. My white Geraniums remind me of our Lord, so pure and perfect. God is good to us sister blessing us with gardens.
