“Arise, lift up the lad, and hold him by the hand, for I will make a great nation of him.”
There is need of help then there is heartbreaking need of not just help, but rescuing. In our daily lives we face mild needs for provision in some area of our life, but there are those whose need is beyond mere things – it is a matter of life or death. In the last couple of years Covid has brought death and suffering to many people on a scale we would never have thought possible previously. I and my family have faced the prospect of my possible death from a brain tumour in the past; such trials certainly put a different perspective on life. Hagar and her son Ishmael were in such a desperate plight in Genesis 21; one that threatened their life.
The story of Hagar and her son is a heart rending one of a mother in a terrible situation amidst the wilderness; death was not far away. As I read her story I became aware that here was a type of the saved child of God in desperate need. Hagar cried but it was the cry of the lad which brought God to the rescue – the lad was a son and heir of Abraham. He was a child under Divine protection; through the shed blood of Jesus our Lord and Saviour we are also children of God, heirs under Divine protection. God heard the cries of young Ishmael; He will also hear our cries in the prayer of anguish. Almighty God had plans for Ishmael, to help him grow and prosper – He has plans to help us to grow and prosper as His children if we seek and follow Him.
Dear reader, are you facing life altering or even life threatening trials right now? Call out, indeed cry to your Father God: He will hear you in the wilderness and come to your rescue just at the right time. Your Father God has plans for you, he is not finished with you yet!
Thanks for the encouragement. “Your Father God has plans for you, he is not finished with you yet! ”
Amen!

Started reading your blog a couple of months ago as it was close to what I wanted to write (almost there now the technical side was not my strong point) and I want to say what a blessing it’s been. I’ve forwarded todays to my newly born again discipleship group – aka my daughters. Loved the song too. Every blessing to you and the brothers and sisters north of the border 🙂

Just to say, Mr. Kearns, how much I was blessed by your kindness to our sister. If the Lord invites any of His beloved servants to write, the invitation and the gifts He gives them to employ their faithfilled, yes, to take up the writing for His glory must be surrendered to Him. Some of His people may only write for an audience of One or He may bring along some He wishes to encourage through the unique gift He has bestowed. Either way, we all bow to His magnificence as we do all as unto His Beloved Son. Thank you again for expressing your kindness in such a godly way. Laure from Larkenel

The way I see it Jim these trials are part of my training, so that I can serve Him better with some knowledge. I thank God for His hand in my life, and allowing me to serve Him in my own small way. God is Good!

Such a well chosen song to go with your devotional Alan! I’ve added it to my playlist so I can come back to listen to it again and again.

I really love the song too Beth, it was a recent find. Indeed what often happens is I write the post, and pop over to youtube where a song is highlighted by the Holy Spirit – it never fails to amaze me.

and yes, cry out to God – He cares for our wherever we are at; however weak or strong we feel – He is there ready for us to help us, guide us, strengthen us, mourn with us, cry with us…..

It only takes a wee bit of humility to cry out to Him, the benefits of living a surrendered life to Him are Heaven sent by His hand!

Mustard seed of faith, and a wee bit of humility, and we’d change the world – one person at a time!
