…Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his time; Noah walked with God.

Genesis 6:9b (NASB)

Certain men stand out in our world, for example I have just been watching Luke Stoltman of Scotland in the qualifying heats for the World’s Strongest Man – these men stand out in a big way. Other men stand out for other reasons, be it for achievements or even notoriety. God calls each of his children to stand out for Him – “Be on the alert, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong.” (1 Corinthians 16:13).

As I pondered great men of God in Scripture, many well known names popped into my thoughts but the Spirit reminded me of Noah – now there is a real man for God. In the verse preceeding our chosen verse we find that “Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord”, as did Moses (Exodus 33:17) and Mary our Lord’s mother (Luke 1:30) – being accepted by God and covered by His Almighty Grace. Noah lived a righteous life in difficult times, being “blameless in his time” – being complete and wholly for God no matter the cost. He is the first example of a man being persecuted for standing as Godly in a sinful world, and he did not bend for he “walked with God” rather than with men. He departed from the temptations and mockery of the world and followed where God lead him.

Dear reader, the world tempts and mocks us as men of God – attacking our relationship with our Father God at every opportunity. The agents of satan hate Him who we stand for in our home, work and church. Sinful men did everything to corrupt the world in Noah’s time; sinful men are doing exactly the same today in the 21st Century. Noah was called by God to stand up for His righteousness; and God calls us as Godly men to do the same today. As we begin this new year let us endeavour to foster the example set for us by Noah.

  1. Noah did set quite the example. He and his wife and their sons with their families were literally the only ones who respected and worshipped God in their time.

Great post, brother! Happy New Year to the Kearns family. Blessings!

    1. I must confess David that I nearly bypassed Noah and started with Moses, until the Spirit intervened that is. Thank you for your encouragement brother. God bless the Duncan family today and in the New Year ahead.
