Are we beginning to commend ourselves again? Or do we need, as some, letters of commendation to you or from you? You are our letter, written in our hearts, known and read by all men; being manifested that you are a letter of Christ, cared for by us, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.

2 Corinthians 3:1-3 (NASB)

Recently I have had to deal with official letters pertaining to my driving licence; my word or honour was not sufficient, the only thing that was acceptable was ink on paper. So often this is the case in history, that if something isn’t documented on paper it cannot be believed. Indeed the laws of our land must go through several stages ending in a printed document which is declared as law.

In New Testament history of the early Church letters of commendation were used between fellowships as proof of legitimacy of visitors. This system of letters of commendation was used right up to the early twentieth century by some churches as necessary for visitors to enjoy the privileges of fellowship. Today’s scripture points to a more reliable source of commendation; the Holy Spirit within a believer.

Dear reader, there can be no greater commendation of a saved soul than the outworking of the Holy Spirit shining forth for all to see. I remember years ago seeing a failure of a letter of commendation; there was no proof of the Holy Spirit within the individual, and people were hurt…his letter was worthless. Men can write anything on a piece of paper, but the heart in tune with the Holy Spirit of God always tells the truth. Are you in tune with the Holy Spirit brethren, is there evidence of His presence in you today?

  1. Thank you for a wonderful journey of faith through your blog, A-men! Today I am going to the Christmas Meeting for the Fellowship Aglow International we belong to. The Theme is THE JOURNEY of Christmas. We will revisit the beginning and remember the unseen realm of angels and prophetic Promises of His Coming. Thank God the whole story does not end at the Cross but goes on to Resurrection and the Coming FOREVER till He Returns as KING ,of God the Holy Spirit to indwell frail human temples.
What a remembrance of the I AM. of history recorded for generations.. Thank you again Alan.
