26 Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. 27 I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will be careful to observe My ordinances.
The first heart transplant in the UK, on 3 May 1968, was the tenth in the world and five months behind the first in the world by Christiaan Barnard in South Africa. Today there are around 300 heart transplants performed in the UK every year. It was a post by Cindy Dawson yesterday that started a train of thought in my mind about heart surgery; it occurred to me that according to today’s verse that Almighty God is the first ever heart surgeon.
All of us are born with a congenital heart defect; they are infected with sin passed down from our ancestors, Adam and Eve. The good news is that Almighty God not only loves us, He knows the workings of our heart and what is needed to fix it. He set the surgery date by sending His precious Son Jesus Christ as a baby born in Bethlehem; He grew and became the treatment for the sin problem of all humanity. Through His death and resurrection a heart transplant became available to all men.
Dear reader, this Christmas we are presented with the story of Bethlehem and the largest heart transplant programme in history – do you need a new heart free from sin and eternal death? Call out today with David the psalmist :
Create in me a clean heart, O God,
And renew a steadfast spirit within me.
— Psalm 51:10
In and through Christ you can have a new heart, from the hand of Almighty God. Your new heart is superior in every way to the old one :
Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.
— 2 Corinthians 5:17
Now that is the true gift of Christmas, from God and for you!
Amen!

A BEAUTIFUL post. Spiritually I think I understand why God’s Presence was so powerfully with us when I asked if the op to implant a pacemaker to help my heart if my blood pressure dropped suddenly, was performed without general anesthetic. No one was happy with my request but agreed to give it a go. God was certainly present with us. Unbelieving heart doctor knew something supernatural happened. Undeserved Grace outpoured. I know on January 5 which is not a heart issue I will need His Holy expertise . as Divine surgeon. and restorative Healer in the weeks following. Thank you Alan and for reminder in song.

Thank you David! Off the top of my head He is called “The Gardener” and “The Vinedresser” in the New Testament, is He not?

Wonderful post Alan It also reminds me that Jesus is both the master surgeon as well as the one who died to donate to us His own heart.
