Psalm 6:1-10

The Lord has heard my supplication,
The Lord receives my prayer.

Psalm 6:9 (NASB)

Some years ago I found myself in the midst of a spiritual storm, one of my own making. I had strayed from His Narrow Path. It was through intercession and direct intervention of good friends I found my way back onto the path with God. It was my own prayers of humble repentance that God wanted to hear, I had to admit my error and change direction. He heard my prayers and answered them, bringing me through the storm. On reflection I can see how God took my brokenness and used it to achieve His will in His perfect time. He saved me and made me fruitful for Him again.

Spiritual storms can come from many sources, such as health problems or economic distress. As I write this I am in the midst of a storm in my health which began building on Friday, deepening fatique is making everyday tasks difficult. Often life can be cruel and a real trial to bear. In these situations a steady anchor is required, one we can trust. As a child of God I cling to Him in prayer, knowing that He hears me. He hears my spoken and unspoken prayers. Our hearts are like a book to Him, our tears are the pages.

Dear reader are you in the midst of a spiritual storm right now? Like the psalmist keep praying to your Father God, be assured He hears you. Hold tight to Him until the storm passes by.

  1. Amen to David’s prayer above. Don’t be deceived, discouraged, or dismayed. God loves you and has an answer for your specific need. He is perfect at diagnosing needs and administering just the right dosage. His perfection is where you place your trust.

  3. Alan, thank you for allowing your readers to join in prayer as you pass through this storm of life. A prayer from one of my posts came to mind as I read of your circumstances.

Father God, thank You for being Elohim the God of Power and Strength. You are mighty, greater than all other gods. You are so full of goodness and grace towards those You love. Thank You for giving Your children direct access to all You are, through prayer.

We are but dust and You put the breath of life into Your creation. You alone number our days. No authority on earth can take one day from mankind that You have appointed. No sickness, no disease, no accident, or disaster can rob the coffers of Heaven. These are not stronger or mightier than You, oh Lord. Therefore, we bow in worship to You the King of kings. Praise be to Your name. Hallelujah and amen!

  4. Alan, just wanted to stop into this post again and say that you are in my prayers. You came to mind today as I was chewing through Psalms 119. As a man who holds God’s word dear to his heart, I thought these verses may be of encouragement to you. “My comfort in my suffering is this, Your promise preserves my life” (verse 50). “My soul melts with heaviness strengthen me according to Your Word.” Praying the the Lord’s comfort and strength blanket you as you rest in His Word.
