On this Autumn Lord’s Day I am excited to introduce a new guest writer, Beth Alisan who writes beautiful doggy themed devotionals. I have been a big fan of Beth’s blog for some time, her lovely pastoral stories about her life with Adi the labrador always share great spiritual truths. I would heartily recommend making time to read Lessons From A Lab, I am sure it will bless you.
“The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to him in song. The Lord is the strength of his people, . . .”
Psalms 28: 7-8a
You know the dog who sits next to you begging to be pet, and the longer you pet the more it leans into you. Well, Adi’s lean is more like a sprawl. It begins when she curls up next to me. Slowly she uncurls, leaning an ever increasing amount of her body against mine until her body is completely resting against or across me. She knows two things. I’m big enough to support her and will never push her away.

Recently when a wave of frustration threatened to wipe out my shrinking patience, the Lord called to mind Adi’s lean. He was reminding me that no matter how much I needed to lean into Him for patience, He was strong enough to support me and would keep me close. Just like Adi, the longer I lean the more comfort and peace I draw from His presence.
I share this as an encouragement. No matter what wave is rolling your way, lean into Jesus. He’s got you, and He wants you right by His side.
Great analogy, Beth. As Adi is with you, so I am with the Lord. There is no more comforting place for me than leaning into Him as close as I can be.

I believe this is the exact post that I needed to read today! Sometimes, we do feel like a huge wave is about to overtake us. When we ‘lean in’ to Jesus, we feel a calm that blesses us in any storm. We know that we will be okay.
