Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you,
β€”  1 Peter 1:3-4 (NASB)

Today, Saturday 12th June 2021, is Queen Elizabeth’s state birthday. Her actual birthday was on the 26th April when she reached her 95th year. The idea of our monarch having two birthdays originated with George II in 1748, two hundred and eventy three years ago. The King’s birthday was in November, which is too cold for any official celebrations – thus the second Saturday in June was adopted as the Monarch’s state birthday. Her Majesty’s state birthday is marked by a military trooping of the colours in London and a fly past by the Royal Air Force, over Buckingham Palace.

As Christians we also have two birthdays. We are related to the King of Glory, Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour. His Father God is also our Father. The day that we accept Jesus into our life is our second (Eternal) birthday, as a child of God. Our earthly life is short and holds little hope, and has no riches for eternity. In contrast our New Life in Christ is “a living hope,” assuring us that we will “obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled … reserved in heaven for you.” Now that is what I call a real inheritance – Hallelujah!

Dear Reader, enjoy both your birthdays – they are both gifts from God, but hold your mega praise party on your Eternal birthday. Your Heavenly age only gets richer the closer you are to meeting your Lord in Glory, now that day will be a celebration above all others!
