Beloved, I urge you as aliens and strangers to abstain from fleshly lusts which wage war against the soul.
As I read Our Daily Bread this morning on the power of Christian testimony through service in a dark world I was reminded of the need for separation as well. As children of God we are called to be in the world but not to be joined with it in all things. As the verse above suggests we are to be foreigners in this world, just passing through enroute to our Heavenly home. Our separation from worldly habits and associations makes us stand out for God. King Solomon lost sight of this marrying many wives and making alliances outside of God’s family, which eventually lead him astray away from his God in his old age (1 Kings 3:1, 11:1-4).
Dear readers, as Christians if we stand out by being different in our behaviour and choices we shine as lights in a dark world (Matthew 5:16). Lights in the dark are attractive drawing folk to them, as a lighthouse guides vessels on the dark ocean we can guide souls to Christ the Saviour. I encourage you today to be separate from this foreign world, that your light may shine all the brighter for Him.
