This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast and one which enters within the veil,
Hebrews 6:19 (NASB)
I had a light bulb moment at church last Sunday morning as we hummed along to “Christ The Sure and Steady Anchor” by Matt Boswell. I must confess I love nautical themes, especially in spiritual matters. But in this worship song, which was new to me, I had a flash of inspiration from one line in particular: “This my ballast of assurance, see His love forever proved.”
Ballast is heavy material, such as gravel, sand, or iron, placed in the bilge of a ship to ensure its stability on the ocean. This had me asking the question, what is our ballast? Christ is the Anchor of our soul, our personal faith in Him as our Lord and Saviour is our ballast. The stormy waves of life cannot capsize those who have faith in Christ as their stabiliser. Dear reader, how is your ballast? Are you sure and steady in the Saviour?
Let us pray: Dear Father God, thank You for Your love for me. I can never be grateful enough for Christ, my Lord and Saviour – my Anchor. Keep my life on a steady course Heaven bound, stable in life’s storms as I depend on You. Guide and encourage me today as I follow You. Amen.
