“Now when the unclean spirit goes out of a man, it passes through waterless places seeking rest, and does not find it. Then it says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came’; and when it comes, it finds it unoccupied, swept, and put in order.”

Matthew 12:43 – 44 (NASB)

Great Tits moved into the nest box on the side of our shed this year, which has been the home of Blue Tits in previous years. The Great Tits were also the first visitors to our new swanky bird table that we purchased yesterday, these new tenants know a good thing when they see it. The Goldfinches spurned the new facility, still preferring the seeds from the ground weeds. These new feathered neighbours usurping the Blue Tits reminded me of the danger in leaving unoccupied space for invaders in our souls.

As we follow God we heed His guidance in His Word, the Bible. The closer we draw to God and His Holy ways the spring cleaning of our life from unholy habits is more effective. We clean our house of unholy habits but must also occupy it with holy habits, leaving no space for satan’s squatters – evil spirits. Just like the Great Tits in our unoccupied nest box this year, evil takes advantage of unoccupied space in our life. Thus it is our duty as believers to fill our life with holy things; that being prayer and regular study of the Bible.

LET US PRAY: Dear Father God, guide me each day in how I occupy my time. Lead me in Your Ways, through regular prayer and studying of Your Holy Word. Let me not leave unoccupied space for the evil one in my walk with You today. Amen.

  1. Alan, I was excited to see another post inspired by birds. Excellent connection. “We clean our house of unholy habits but must also occupy it with holy habits, leaving no space for satan’s squatters – evil spirits. Just like the Great Tits in our unoccupied nest box this year, evil takes advantage of unoccupied space in our life.” I enjoy sharing these posts with my Dad who loves Jesus and loves birding.

    1. Hi Beth, bless you sister for your lovely comments. It thrills me when someone enjoys a post, but most of all when another birder enjoys my bird posts. May our Father God bless you, your Dad and the rest of the family this coming weekend.
