Now as Jacob went on his way, the angels of God met him. Jacob said when he saw them, “This is God’s camp.” So he named that place Mahanaim.
Recently I have been re-watching one of my favourite tv series, “Touched By An Angel.” It is rather old compared to modern productions but it was and still is good wholesome viewing, enjoying the adventures of Monica and Tess as they help souls in need of God’s intervention in their lives. As Susan my wife always says, “such stories never get old.” These fictional stories remind me of the reality of my Father God’s protection and provision in life, all by His Eternal Love.
This morning I was encouraged by our chosen scripture. Even after years Jacob is fearful of meeting his brother Esau who he cheated of his birthright, he expected the possibility of violent revenge on him and his new family. His return home was in God’s will and He was going to protect Jacob and his family. Almighty God had His angels meet Jacob to encourage him for the journey ahead. We don’t know how many angels Jacob witnessed, but we do know they were successful in giving him courage and confidence in God’s plan for him. Such is just one of many roles of God’s angels in the lives of mankind. I have never had a problem believing in angels my entire life, indeed I wrote a blog post in April 2020 about angels entitled “Guardians of The Saints.” Maybe someday I will collate a collection of angel stories to share with you?
Dear reader, be encouraged in your place in God’s family. Be further encouraged by the work of His Holy Spirit and His Word (Bible) in your life through your prayers. Be assured of His protection and provision, maybe even by the hands of angels that you might or might not see. Angels work in our lives often in human form, sometimes being the right person at the right time. But who can be certain that the kind stranger who helped you wasn’t an angel, sent by God?
