For the eyes of the Lord move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His.
2 Chronicles 16:9a (NASB)
“God on the mountain is still God in the valley, when things go wrong He will make them right” sings Linda Randle in a Gaither Music video I watched yesterday afternoon. Even though this was not news to me, this song struck a cord with me that thrilled my heart again. Almighty God our Father is forever present, whether we are on the spiritual mountain peaks or in the dark valley of despair.
Our God is everywhere all of the time (omnipresent). David expressed this well in Psalm 139:7-8: “Where can I go from Your Spirit?
Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend to heaven, You are there;
If I make my bed in Sheol, behold, You are there.” Sadly his descendants the Israelites didn’t comprehend this in the wilderness, when Moses was communing with God on Mount Sinai. They rebelled against God and asked Aaron to make them an idol of gold that they could worship it, but God on the mountain saw their sin in the valley below (Exodus 32). It would be remiss to not mention the intercession of Moses with God not to destroy the people, which changed the mind of the Almighty! In that moment we have probably the greatest example of the power of intercessory prayer in the Bible, at our disposal every day. But let us grasp the fact that we began with as David did, God is everywhere with us.
Dear reader, be encouraged in your dark valley for God is there beside you and will sustain you (Psalm 23:4). He is God on your mountain tops of joy and God in your valley of anguish. Take heart in this amazing truth.
