knowing, brethren beloved by God, His choice of you 1 Thessalonians 1:4
As humans we crave the attention of our fellow men/women. Children seek the attention of parents or grandparents, wanting their approval. In school there was the inevitable lunchtime football match, but first the teams had to picked. Everyone lined up waiting anxiously to be chosen, not wanting to be left until the end. The shame of being unchosen was a real stain, laughed at by most and scorned by the team left with them. In adult life we still seek to be chosen by the boss at work, to get the big project or promotion.
Today as I read our text I was reminded of being chosen for the greatest team ever, it was the night I gave my life to God. It was not the invitation that pierced my heart, but it was the knowledge that God wanted me – He chose me! I found out later that He didn’t choose me that night, but that He chose me before I was even born (Ephesians 1:3-5). It gets better, He not only chose me but He listens to me each time I pray (Psalm 4:3). As I read these verses today my heart was bursting with gratitude and love for my Father God, who chooses me today.
Dear reader, do you know that you are chosen by God Almighty? Your station in this world does not matter to Him, He knows you and chooses you today. If you know Him rejoice in His love, if not repent of your sin and accept His forgiveness. God is not aloof, He reaches out to humanity everyday in many ways.
