knowing, brethren beloved by God, His choice of you 1 Thessalonians 1:4

As humans we crave the attention of our fellow men/women. Children seek the attention of parents or grandparents, wanting their approval. In school there was the inevitable lunchtime football match, but first the teams had to picked. Everyone lined up waiting anxiously to be chosen, not wanting to be left until the end. The shame of being unchosen was a real stain, laughed at by most and scorned by the team left with them. In adult life we still seek to be chosen by the boss at work, to get the big project or promotion.

Today as I read our text I was reminded of being chosen for the greatest team ever, it was the night I gave my life to God. It was not the invitation that pierced my heart, but it was the knowledge that God wanted me – He chose me! I found out later that He didn’t choose me that night, but that He chose me before I was even born (Ephesians 1:3-5). It gets better, He not only chose me but He listens to me each time I pray (Psalm 4:3). As I read these verses today my heart was bursting with gratitude and love for my Father God, who chooses me today.

Dear reader, do you know that you are chosen by God Almighty? Your station in this world does not matter to Him, He knows you and chooses you today. If you know Him rejoice in His love, if not repent of your sin and accept His forgiveness. God is not aloof, He reaches out to humanity everyday in many ways.

  1. How humbling to know that we were chosen before the creation of the world. Not that I will ever understand why He would choose one such as me. His mercy and grace is beyond understanding. Goes to show is not what or who we are is all about WHO HE IS.
Thank you Alan for this most peaceful posting .

  2. We are each chosen by God—in advance—for a specific life of good deeds (Eph. 2:10). God chooses us for His team BEFORE we’ve demonstrated our abilities! Of course, He already knows our abilities, but most of the time WE don’t. What a patient and loving Father we have, brother Alan! Blessings 🙏

    1. I love the way you put this David: “God chooses us for His team BEFORE we’ve demonstrated our abilities! ” If that doesn’t get us dancing for joy like King David, nothing will. God bless you brother.

  3. It is hard to comprehend that our Almighty God would choose us – not only choose us but demonstrate His love for us by sending Christ to die on the cross for us while we were still sinners. Unfathomable!
