For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. Galatian 3:26 (NASB)

For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him. Romans 8:14-17 (NASB)

Three days ago I posted The Jewels of Faith from Galatians 3 in which I highlighted four benefits (jewels) of believers faith in Jesus. Afterwards I felt a need to say more on each jewel individually. Today we are looking at jewel number one, adoption.

Adoption in modern society is a process whereby a person assumes the parenting of another from that person’s biological or legal parent(s). Legal adoptions permanently transfer all rights and responsibilities to the new parent(s). Adoptions usually are the result of sad circumstances, be it death, abuse or even inability to fulfill the duties of parenthood for some reason.

There are many examples of adoption in the Bible. Moses was adopted by Pharoah’s daughter in Egypt and Esther was adopted by her uncle Mordecai. The most prominent example is that of Joseph who raised Jesus as his own son. But we can still go one better…God Almighty has adopted every person who accepts Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour. This is why we can call God our Father. The Holy Spirit confirms within our spirit (heart) that our adoption by God our Father is real. It feels right and good. Not only are we a child of God but an heir, a co-heir with Jesus.

Dear reader, our adoption into the Heavenly family is very real. The immeasurable Love of God has redeemed you and adopted you irrespective of your past, present and future failings. His Fatherly ear is always ready to hear your prayers, He provides for you, His child, every day.

  1. What a thought provoking post. I like what you said about about God adopting every person who accepts Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour. How adoption is real. Sometimes I think we don’t always understand just how real the adoption is. God is our Father. We are an heir, a co-heir with Jesus. If we as Christian were to walk in that truth every day, our attitude towards others would be different. I believe the world would be a better place. But just like those who are unsaved, we sometimes forget just how much He loves us and just how far He went so that we could be in relationship with Him. God bless!

  2. Knowing I am adopted, cherished, wanted, forgiven, and loved by the Father gives me the greatest joy in life. It is a blessing beyond measure, one which gives reason to rise each day with praise and gratitude to my Heavenly Father for.
