I know that everything God does will remain forever; there is nothing to add to it and there is nothing to take from it, for God has so worked that men should fear Him. Ecclesiastes 3:14 (NASB)

Sometimes life doesn’t make sense. You are sitting wondering why a certain event has happened, and no reason can be found. These can anxious moments trying to make sense of what has happened, either over a period of time or suddenly.

One such event in my life was leaving a job in the 1980s and moving back home. I pondered why it had happened that way, it certainly had not been my plan. It was not long after returning home that my dad died suddenly in his sleep on a Saturday morning. I can say now that it was the providence of God that I was there, to care for my mum and to manage affairs.

God prepares us gradually for such life events in a gentle way, so when the time comes we can manage. His plans are perfect and effective in all our life events. He is God Almighty but He is also our Loving Father, He has our best interests and our future planned meticulously.

Dear reader, we cannot add or take away anything from our Father’s perfect plan for us. We simply need to trust Him in each moment. Then in time we can look back in awe at how He blessed us.

  1. Alan, I needed to hear/read that Lewis quote! I remind myself constantly that there are no days off in the Christian life/faith. I need to begin each day with this quote to rely and depend on our Triune God. God’s will and plan is perfect. I am thankful that even when things do not make sense, God knows my beginning, middle and end. While that May sound corny or cliche, it is a comfort knowing that God can be trusted. Love and blessings to you and yours!!

    1. I am so glad (and blessed) that I was able to help you in some small way Mandy. These are the moments that make obedience to His plans worthwhile and sensible beyond our human understanding. His compassion for us is new every morning, afternoon and, evening Mandy! Cliches are great when they reinforce the truth.
